The rose is one of the oldest and most famous flowers in the world. With over 150 species and a variety of shapes and colours, there are many reasons to love these perfect blooms.
A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae.
Most species are native to Asia, with some native to Europe, North America, and Africa.
Roses also have a renowned fragrance that is loved by all and so is commonly seen in perfumes. The perfumes are made from rose oil which is obtained by steam distilling the crushed petals of roses. In addition to rose oil, this can also be seen around the world as 'rose water' which is used in cosmetics, cooking and medicine.
Roses are the most commonly used wedding flower due to their romantic meaning and they are the perfect flower to work into floral designs and installations. They typically bloom in late May so they are ready in time for wedding season.
The rose most famously symbolises love and has been shown in history in poems and songs about romance but every colour rose as it’s own special meaning - making them the perfect gift for every occasion!
